First, the sound is so great that one can even listen to the voice prompts over the radio at the unit 80% volume. The screen and directional display are easy to see at a glance and offers the viewer color scheme choices of display including day or night time displays for best veiwing. Emergency features include guides to the nearest repairs, hospital, vet, police, and even dental from your current position. Easily read current position locator if one has to call for assistance.
I bought this as a Xmas gift and I recommend the carry case and screen protector for screen protection as this unit is entirely touch screen driven. The touch screen allows for fat fingers like myself ease of keying in designations. Great unit at a good price.

if your debating between this and a Garmin? DON'T!!! this kills the garmin hands down! I own the tom tom 1xl and bought a Garmin for my wife. needless to say it was a piece of junk. It couldn't keep satellite reception for more than a few minutes, the Tom Tom has never lost it once!!! I returned it and bought this one instead and am 100% saticefied!!!

Value - For $199 this GPS is a great value. Features - This GPS has all the features needed for navigating and then some. POI works rather well even in an area where there are TONS of shops every 100 yards. Quality - Well built. I find the zoom buttons perfectly placed and intuitive. Zooming in and out on a map while I'm driving is not at the top of my list of features anyway. Let the device do it's work, I need to drive. All the screens are very user friendly in my opinion. Just like EVERYTHING, it does take 5 minutes of exploring the device to get used to where things are located. Performance - Great performance. Finds alternative directions quickly when connected to adequate satelites. it's not a ''magic box'' it does make mistakes. It works on the information it has, it doesnt read minds.

I've noticed some have experienced problems when updating the software. ALWAYS perform a backup before updating -- this will protect you from any update errors that leave your tomtom non-functional! Yes, I had the same problem - and I was able to recover. The biggest problem I have experienced is not enough memory to add new voices and features. Otherwise, it has been wonderful for us.

I bought the XL one. It worked fine until I updated the software using tomtom home. After that it did not work anymore. Sent it back to tiger and got exchanged with a XL 330. IT worked fine until I updated the software. Both died because of someting wrong with software updates. I returned it again. If you buy one, do not update the software!
